What is Dendrochronology? It is the dating and study of annual rings in trees.
Dendrochronologist is a scientist who uses tree rings to answer questions about the natural world and the place of humans in that world. Part of what can be determined is water supply conditions. Please help us ensure our new trees get plenty of water - email wetreeboston@gmail.com if you want to help.
Ring-counting does not cover the accurate dating of each individual ring. Dendrochronologists demand the assignment of a single calendar year to a single ring. Counting tree rings can be complicated and it is important to cross date wood samples by comparing to other trees in the area with similar environmental conditions.
More on this can be found at the University of Arizona, College of Science, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research which is where the above information was taken.
The next time you see a beautiful tree being cut into pieces, take a look at the rings...oh the history in those trees.
